What's so great about Ron?

Watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this weekend made me start thinking about why Hermione like Ron so much. In the movie, she clearly totally devoted to both of them, but since Harry is in much more danger than Ron, she pays a lot more attention to Harry than Ron. So I started thinking, what makes Ron so great? He’s kind of mean to Harry in the 4th book, and he doesn’t seem to do much other than slack around. Obviously, overall he is a good friend and very loyal, but that isn’t why a chick usually digs a guy. I was thinking maybe she likes Ron better “that way” because he is safer: he doesn’t have the dangerous life Harry is destined to have. Ron is just along for the ride like Hermione is. But still, that really isn’t enough to make her pick Ron over Harry. Not that Harry has ever shown any interest in Hermione, which for some reason makes sense to me. I don’t know why.

Work is kind of slow today. Which gives me time to think about such things.

My guess is its a chemistry thing. Harry might not be that cute in real life. Also hermione might be one of those girls who is always trying to 'fix' boys, (even if she doesn't know it yet), and Ron requires more work. Just think back to who we were attracted to at 14-16.
